PLAYTIME DISCIPLINE POLICIES ACCEPTBLE METHODS OF DISCIPLINE: Young children are just beginning to learn social skills of getting along with others and expressing feelings in acceptable ways. Therefore, Playtime rules of acceptable behavior are based on what can reasonably be expected from children at their current stage of development. The staff at Playtime uses positive reinforcement and redirection to guide the children to develop self discipline and problem solving abilities. When a child consistently uses aggressive behavior we will use the time out technique. Time Out is an interruption of a child's unacceptable behavior by removing them from the scene of the action, for a period not to exceed one minute for each year of age. "Children may not always remember what you say but, they will always remember how you made them feel." Biting "Bite is a word that brings to mind all forms of fear and worries. We try to catch the deeds before they happen, but, unfortunately, it is not always possible. Children, especially toddlers, are not always very verbal, do not or cannot verbalize feelings and often show their feelings physically. As they grow older, with our help and guidance, they will learn to replace biting with appropriate responses." "To nip biting in the bud, we assign an adult to stick close to the child who has bitten, ready to jump in and prevent a bite. Of course, we also talk with the child's parents to ensure that we're all responding consistently - at home and at school. We want all parents to know that we take prompt, determined action to eliminate biting in our classroom."
